THE POETRY OF KEVIN FEGAN

All Saints Community Hall, Belle Vue Road, Ashbourne DE6 1AT

Thursday 1 July 2010 7.30pm £6, concessions accompanied under 18s free

Kevin Fegan has written over forty stage plays and seven plays, a classic serial and a Women’s Hour serial for BBC R4.  He is a former storyline writer for Coronation Street and lives in Nottinghamshire.  He specialises in long narrative poems, several of which have been broadcast on Radio 4.

Kevin Fegan is a truly epic writer, who understands the broad sweeps of history and how they can be illuminated to dazzling effect by personal stories. In this age of soundbites and text messages we need writers like him who can see and describe the bigger picture.

Let Your Left Hand Sing

Take an ordinary street, somewhere in the East Midlands.  One morning, on his way to work, Kevin decided to knock on every door and greet his neighbours.  Not just "Hello" but "Tell me your story, how you arrived here on this street?".  By the time he reached the end of the street he’d met half the populations of the world and they were just like him.

Born left handed but forced to use his right, Kevin was born feeling Irish but grew up feeling English. It’s time to "Let Your Left Hand Sing".
