IAIN GALE

Born in London in 1959, the son of political cartoonist George Gale, Iain studied both Military History and History of Art at Edinburgh University.  He maintains his interest in all things military and collects military memorabilia. Iain lives in Edinburgh with his family.  He has written over 10 non-fiction books and ALAMEIN is his fourth novel.

 

ALAMEIN: The Turning Point of World War II by the extremely popular Iain Gale, author of the Jack Steel novels is published on April 15.


 

 

Historical fiction bringing real events alive. Patrick and Iain will be be talking about the research required, what it’s like writing about people who existed, but as fiction, the obligation for accuracy, do we miss out on accessing our history through fiction?

MILITARY HISTORY AS FICTION

PATRICK MERCER

Born in 1956, Patrick Mercer read History at Oxford University before joining the Army where he commanded his battalion in Bosnia and Canada.  In 1999 he accepted a post as the Defence Reporter for the Today Programme before turning to politics.  In the 2001 election, Patrick Mercer won the Tory seat in Newark.  He left the Army as the youngest officer to reach the rank of Lieutenant Colonel since the Second World War.

 

Patrick Mercer MP, his new book DUST AND STEEL is published on April 29. This is the second novel in his thrilling military history series featuring flawed hero Captain Anthony Morgan.
